How do you create a kitchen that has all the charm of an English country scheme without the architectural details that make these spaces so coveted? You take inspiration from the color palette, of course.
Country kitchen ideas are always a coveted style – now more than ever as homeowners want to create cooking spaces that feel warm and inviting. The materials are more natural, the finishes a little more rustic, and the kitchen colors undeniably softer. And while white, sage, and various shades of yellow have proved exceedingly popular recently, designers say apple green is the kitchen color trend that will bring the essence of an English country style into your home. Here's why this lesser-used hue is back in style, and how to decorate with it tastefully and timelessly.

There's something so instantly cozy about an English country kitchen. They always feel so homey, filled with natural wood details, a more lived-in style, and colors that reference the natural world. But the typical colors have become a little bit repetitive – especially when it comes to green.
Sage green has dominated in recent years, offering a soft hue that balances the richer wood tones. And while it might be a classic color, designers are starting to agree that it feels a bit obvious and overdone, especially as we head into 2027. But apple green feels new and exciting, or, in the words of interior designer Nels Crosthwaite Eyre, 'it’s fresh and doesn’t date.'
It's a color that hits that middle ground between bright greens and subtler, almost pastel shades. It retains the softness of sage yet feels more considered and rooted in country style. 'There is a certain softness that needs to be achieved when doing a countryside kitchen, and the apple tones hit the mark,' Nels adds.

Apple green isn't a singular shade. Much like different apple varieties, the tones vary from very pale to more saturated. 'It's not as vibrant or fresh as a minty green or sage, or as earthy as a deep yellow-based green (which I also love),' says Louise Robinson, Founder of Studio Marron. 'It brings a freshness which is light and pretty and perfectly suited to the traditional joinery so often found in an English country kitchen.'
'I love the hint of nostalgia apple green brings to a kitchen,' she continues. 'It reminds me of cozy country cottages and connects beautifully with the garden without feeling overpowering or overly vibrant. They never get old – apple green, for me, is timeless.'

For a stronger take on the trend, look to shades like Benjamin Moore's Apple Green and Apple Lime Cocktail, or Behr's Sparkling Apple. These tones are the strongest of the apple green palette and bring a striking contrast to natural wood tones and neutrals throughout the design.
If you prefer the paler iterations of the palette, Farrow & Ball's Cooking Apple Green reads beautifully in light and dark rooms, while Green Ground offers a lightened version of the classic, giving darker kitchens an instant lift. Benjamin Moore's Apple Blossom offers a slightly muddier version of apple green that feels right at home in a country kitchen, and Sherwin-Williams' Apple Slice is the palest of shades, reading almost yellow in some lights.

The colors you pair each shade with will also have an impact. Used alongside warm white, your kitchen scheme will feel crisp and fresh, perfectly balanced through the seasons. Soft blues and yellow with apple green create that more traditional country aesthetic, while richer tones like brown and orange add a richer, more fall-adjacent feel.
How you introduce apple green to your kitchen is a personal preference. Painted cabinetry is a classic choice, while painted walls paired with neutral cabinets offer a more playful balance, especially if you have paneled kitchen walls. You can even go bold and color-drench your entire kitchen – Louise recommends painting all the millwork apple green for 'maximum impact.'
'I like to be bold with color, so whether it's joinery or walls, it makes an impact,' Nels explains, noting that subtler infusions are just as stylish. 'If you are more cautious, you could bring it in through light fittings and lampshades or window treatments. Even a small nod, like a seat cushion, would work too.'

Green kitchen ideas are always in style, but apple tones are a less expected way to bring this timeless palette into your kitchen. Really consider how you bring apple green into your kitchen, the shades you choose, and the colors you pair it with – these details will all impact how this emerging hue will feel.
