Shea McGee has finally opened her very own retail store – and the location is just as storied as fans of her nostalgic home brand could have hoped. Taking residence in Salt Lake City’s historic Trolley Square, the 7,500-square-foot space is a full-circle moment for McGee & Co., bringing the brand home to the city where it all began.

Stepping inside feels as much like coming home for Shea as it does for the casual customer. Arranged as a series of fully styled rooms – complete with original arched windows and exposed brick, plus custom apothecary-inspired cabinetry – the store spans furniture, lighting, rugs, textiles, tabletop, and accessories. A whopping 1,000+ finds from McGee & Co.’s broader online collection mingle with curated vintage, garden accessories, and other unexpected finds exclusive to this IRL location.

‘More than anything, I want people to feel inspired and at home,’ Shea tells of the milestone launch. ‘We’ve always believed that beautiful design should also feel approachable and livable, and I wanted the store to reflect that.’ Centered around the art of discovery, ‘You can walk into a living room, sit on a sofa, feel the fabrics, and see how different pieces work together. Maybe you come in looking for a lamp and leave with an entirely new idea for your living room.’

The space hardly needed help in the character department, housed in one of the structures that once served the city’s electric streetcars in the early 1900s, but you can see the prowess of Shea’s design studio layered throughout. Shea wanted the details to ‘feel like something you might discover in an old European shop.’

‘The decorative fireplaces and custom millwork also help each space feel like an individual room rather than a traditional retail display,’ she adds – a continuation of the 'New Heritage' aesthetic, marrying traditional influences with newer ones, for which her firm Studio McGee is known.

Speaking of, the Studio McGee springboard won’t be far away. Through the complimentary Design Concierge Studio, customers can receive help selecting individual pieces, developing a cohesive design scheme, or planning a full room. ‘I hope people leave feeling excited about their own homes, whether they purchase something that day or simply discover a new idea they want to try.’

Vintage looks, vintage finds and vintage-inspired decor – but in 2026, even the brick-and-mortar store can feel like something of a vintage notion. So one question remains: why would Shea McGee, having built a wildly successful e-commerce business since 2016, open one now?

‘Even as our online business has grown, I’ve always dreamed of creating a space where people could experience McGee & Co. in person,’ answers Shea. ‘There is something so different about walking into a room, seeing how the pieces work together, feeling the textures and discovering something you might not have considered online.’

Plus, scrunching up over a screen trying to imagine what that scalloped-trim throw pillow would feel like in your hands – or how a seven-inch-tall candlestick might actually land without begrudgingly whipping out your measuring tape – is simply not the same as shopping in store.

'As a designer, I know how important those tangible experiences are. You can love a piece of furniture in a photograph, but seeing its scale, sitting on it, and experiencing it in a fully designed room brings it to life in a completely different way.’

‘For us, opening a store isn’t about moving away from e-commerce. It’s about building on what we’ve created online and giving our customers another way to connect with the brand. After more than a decade of building McGee & Co., it felt like the right next step.’

'We see this as the beginning of a much larger chapter for McGee & Co,’ says Shea. ‘We’re being thoughtful about what comes next and looking closely at where we already have strong customer communities. We have access to a lot of valuable data from our ecommerce business that can help guide those decisions.’

As for where she might be headed next? ‘I have a few cities on my personal wish list.’
