Ornamental grasses are valuable in the garden year-round, but it's in fall when they truly have their moment. Turning fall colors of auburn and bronze, they can transform an otherwise faded summer border into a celebration of the changing seasons.

Many ornamental grasses for fall also bloom during the cooler months, with the likes of white fountain grass (which is available on Amazon) producing white plumes from mid-late summer through fall and pink muhly grass (which you can order from Nature Hills) brightening up the fall garden with a striking hue of purple-pink blooms. With tall flower spikes and bushy growth, there are several ornamental grasses for privacy in fall, too. This is especially useful when everything else has faded away and left your garden a little sparse.

They're the perfect plant to fill gaps in borders, or you can use compact ornamental grasses to line garden paths, like this variegated liriope from Plant Addicts. Clump-forming ornamental grasses are also a great pick for a container garden. The soft movement and texture of the grasses in the fall breeze can bring interest to your patio, enjoyed from the warmth of your kitchen window.

No matter which spot you're looking to fill, there's certainly an ornamental grass for fall to use. Here, we've compiled 16 stunning seasonal picks.

After enjoying the beautiful fiery colors and blooms of these ornamental grasses in fall and winter, turn your attention to cutting back ornamental grasses. Doing so in spring (with these hedge shears from Amazon) will make way for new growth and set your grass up for next fall.
