It's also a practical choice, particularly for a room designed for working. 'Bad lighting means low productivity. It really is as simple as that. Harsh, bright ceiling lights can strain your eyes and drain your energy levels, making it difficult to concentrate on your daily tasks,' says Helen Belcher, senior interior planner at British heritage furniture brand Heal’s.

'Task lighting is also extremely important when working from home. Task lighting focuses light into a specific area, is required for working at a desk, and can help avoid eye strain as the sun starts to go down,' Helen explains. 'A good desk lamp is extremely important for this, and is probably my biggest must-have for work-from-home set-ups.'
