Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's ‘Cali-Meets-Cotswolds’ Kitchen Is a Masterclass in Heritage Style – Redefining Textures for 2027

The unlikely marriage of California cool and Cotswolds charm has found its way into Meghan Markle's kitchen. After moving back to the UK with Prince Harry in August, Meghan seems to have given us a first glimpse inside their Cotswolds home, a space that brings together two very different sides of her life.

Nowhere is this balance clearer than in the couple's country kitchen. It brings together the warmth of a Cotswolds home with the lighter feel Meghan has favored in California. Timber, marble, and brass give the room a sense of history and character, while clean lines and a restrained palette keep it feeling modern.

For years, luxury kitchen ideas favored classic white cabinetry and stainless steel finishes. Meghan's approach is much softer. It's defined by a continuous marble backsplash and open timber shelving, with accessories in a similar tone, such as this chopping board from Crate & Barrel. It creates a look designers say will be beautiful in 2027.

Tondo Acacia Round Serving Board

Meghan's kitchen makes a strong case for keeping everyday pieces on display. This wooden serving board has a similar feel to hers, adding warmth and texture when leaned against the backsplash or propped up on the counter.

Gracie Oaks Nathali Distressed Gray Wash 12" Terracotta Table Vase & Reviews | Wayfair

Gracie Oaks Nathali Distressed Gray Vase

I love the idea of leaving this terracotta vase empty, letting its weathered finish become part of the kitchen decor. It would sit naturally on a shelf or countertop, with the same earthy warmth seen in Meghan's kitchen.

10.5" Stoneware Scalloped Dinner Plate

If you like the plates Meghan has on display in her kitchen, this scalloped design has a similar look. The gold rim adds a subtle detail, making it just as suited to an open shelf as it is to the dinner table.

Wooden chopping boardsRustic shape

A rustic wooden breadboard can warm up a kitchen surface in an instant. With its timeworn shape and simple silhouette, the Boylan style has the feel of a piece you might find in an old country kitchen, and is just as good left out on display.

August Grove® Vintage Indigo Porcelain Teapot 40 Oz. & Reviews | Wayfair

August Grove Indigo Porcelain Teapot

There’s a certain charm to a teapot that looks as though it has been passed down through the family. With its vintage indigo pattern and traditional porcelain shape, this one would bring an heirloom feel to an open shelf, whether or not it’s in use.

French Grey Ruffle Cake Stand With DomeSleek stoneware

A cake stand doesn't need to be reserved for special occasions. With its French gray finish, delicate ruffled edge, and glass dome, this one would look just as beautiful on a kitchen counter, ready to display a cake, fruit, or even a collection of favorite pieces.

Rather than recreating a classic English kitchen, Meghan has taken some of its most enduring materials and given them a more pared-back treatment. This mix of timber and stone is also something leading industry experts expect to see more of in the coming years.

'Wooden kitchen cabinetry will continue to be a key feature in 2027 as homeowners look for natural materials that bring warmth, texture and character into the space,' explains Paul Moody, global director at Havwoods.

'From rich walnuts to pale oak, the natural grain and variation of timber can help create a more relaxed, lived-in atmosphere and soften the harder surfaces often found in kitchens.'

Paul notes that incorporating wood does not require an all-or-nothing approach to kitchen design. 'It doesn't need to be used across every cabinet either,' he adds. 'Introducing timber to an island, a bank of cabinetry or a particular area of the kitchen can add warmth and help break up larger open-plan spaces. It also works well alongside materials such as stone, metal and painted finishes, allowing wood to become part of a more layered and personal scheme.'

Meghan and Harry's kitchen exhibits this perfectly. The timber brings warmth without overwhelming the room, while marble and brass add just enough polish to keep the scheme feeling refined. It's a softer take on luxury kitchen design, and one that feels particularly fitting for a Cotswolds home (with just enough of Meghan's California sensibility to make it feel like her own).
